Financial Assistance


Those seeking financial assistance must have documentation of residence in Pickens County as well as identification for each immediate family member receiving services. In addition, clients requesting financial assistance will be required to produce documentation of bills to utility companies, creditors, medical or prescription charges, etc. as is applicable. This brief application for services will be required at the time of their first visit. A volunteer counselor will meet briefly with each client and may make referrals to other community agencies or services, as appropriate.

In many cases where assistance is provided, there will be active steps required in exchange for financial assistance provide (for example: volunteer hours at the Thrift Store or other area charity) or in order to remain eligible for food assistance (for example: taking steps to register for G.E.D., devising a resume, or taking a budgeting class.

Requests for financial assistance are considered on a case-by-case basis. Since CARES depends on donations and grants for funding, available money from these sources can sometimes be a limiting factor in determining whether aid can be given. Please note that funds may not be available immediately at the time of request, as the committee generally makes decisions within a few days of the request.
